Perhaps two of the most iconic time-only watches in this category are the Rolex Explorer in 36mm and the Omega Railmaster from the 60th-anniversary Trilogy collection. RJ and Nacho will present their pick and why they think it has the edge over the other. I named this thread Rolex Explorer vs Omega Railmaster, but in reality, it’s not a versus for me, because in my opinion, these two are rather different Watches. Rolex vs omega railmaster
The Omega is certainly bigger and brighter on the wrist and the Rolex (in 36mm case size) appeals to my more solid-citizen side. I already have both an old school 1945-vintage Omega bumper and a 1993-vintage SMP diver but have . I currently own an Omega Railmaster 2503.52 (the previous re-edition) and have owned it for about 8 months. It truly is a great 'vintage' piece with many unique design attributes. However the rugged and sleek design of the newest Rolex explorer (214270) are . My top choices for you, in order: 36mm 1016 Explorer (one is allowed to dream) 36mm 2504.52 Railmaster (on the more affordable side, but may be hard to find) 36mm 14270 Explorer (with lug holes) I'd also consider: 39mm JLC Master Control. 36mm Rolex 116000. 34mm Tudor 74000 "Ranger Dial". I can't think of a single qualitative reason why one would choose an Omega Railmaster over a Rolex Explorer 114270 or 1st or 2nd gen. 214270. But I think the Railmaster can win out if personal preference/subjective reasoning comes .
Price: 945 CHF. Omega Railmaster Co-Axial Master Chronometer 38mm. Deliciously vintage from the 1957 Trilogy editions, with minimalist and exemplary ’50s legibility, this is a quiet reference within the strong Omega portfolio. The warm tones of the beige lume triangles are balanced by one of the crispest printed white minute tracks. While the Omega/Rolex debate can continue, the new AT with the 8500 movement (designed by Omega, built specifically for Omega, but by ETA, another Swatch subsidiary) is a better watch than the RM by far. Hey Vids, I just had to make this choice and, in the final analysis, I selected a 36mm 114270 Rolex Explorer over the Rolex 214270 and the Railmaster. Even though I have a 7.5-inch wrist, I much prefer the understated, classic look of the smaller Explorer.
The Explorer has a 48 hour power reserve while maintaining a Superlative Chronometer setting which gives an accuracy range of 4 seconds (+2/-2) that matches the Omega in accuracy while not quite achieving as long a run time as the Railmaster.
