rolex explorer ii 16570 review
With the 16570’s production spanning 1989–2011, it is one of the longer-lasting references in Rolex history. Early models still feature some distinctly “vintage” characteristics. Later ones can feel thoroughly modern. Some variations are particularly collectible and valued accordingly. Across the board, however, it really is just a matter of taste. The original Rolex Oyster Perpetual Explorer II 1655 that debuted in 1971 is probably my favorite Rolex watch of all time. I wish I’d felt the same in the mid-1980s when you could pick up an unloved “Freccione” at a huge discount. Unfortunately, I only started warming up to the Explorer II with its steel 24-hour bezel in the late 1990s.
Automatic, Bi-directional winding. COSC-Chronometer Certified (-4 to +6 s/day) ~46 hour power reserve. Water Resistance: 100m / 10 bar. Rolex Explorer II 16570 Price. Original Retail Price: ,300. Pre-Owned Price: ,000 to ,000+ (As of August 2021)
The Explorer II in 16570 form is undoubtedly true to its tool watch roots with an extremely easy-to-read dial as well as durable and robust construction. It wears light and airy on the wrist, slipping easily under my shirt cuff. I own a few six-digit Rolex watches and the difference in feel is quite noticeable.
